About Us

‘Summer of Solidarity’ is the first pop-up continent wide, European, collaborative, storytelling media initiative.

  • Pop-up: Summer of Solidarity will run for the duration of two months this summer, from 20 June to 20 August. (This initiative was set-up in just three weeks and we hope to grow it throughout the summer).

  • Continent wide, European: the initiative embraces all of Europe, not only EU-member countries. (We are looking at all Council of Europe member states + Belarus)

  • Collaborative: leveraging a network of partners: media start-ups, freelance journalists (text, photo, video, drawing), civil society organisations, cultural groups, citizens’ networks. We want the network of partners to keep growing over the summer.

  • Storytelling: carefully selected and commissioned  ‘slow’ journalism that focuses on human stories and gives a voice.

  • Accessible: all content we curate or produce is freely accessible online

  • Participative: we welcome contributions (texts, photos, videos) and encourage everyone to take part in our project - for example by sending us a picture of a place you love near you, for our E-Road Trip.

  • Connecting people: we want to build a community that reaches across a variety of boundaries and helps break thought bubbles.

  • Independent: Summer of Solidarity is grassroots-built and editorially independent. It has no connection whatsoever with a political party or institution.

  • Public interest:  the initiative is supported by philanthropic funding and donations. We are pleased to announce that we have secured core funding from the European Cultural Foundation, the Hippocrene foundation and the Robert Bosch foundation.
