SoS Weekly Jams #5

Week Five: Summer farniente
This week, we have some lazy and intoxicating summer fun. « Take off your silver spurs and help me pass the time » sings French Clara Luciani to Scottish Franz Ferdinand’s lead singer Alex Kapranos in a sweet rendition of « Summer Wine », a Lee Hazlewood and Nancy Sinatra classic. French duo Double Françoise substitute liquor for wine, but heady love lingers. Shall we dance then ? Italian Cascoa and Lady Maru would like us to, and we’ll do it lazily to the sound of their strange « Burundance ». For a full-flavoured cocktail, Italian Rosa Chemical mixes some polka in his trap. British James Brighton tries to have a conversation with his young daughter. We reunite two English LAs, LA Priest and L.A. Salami for some mid-tempo fun. Spanish Gabriela Richardson gives us a mellow cover of Lil Peep’s « Star Shopping » and Barcelona’s Meritxell Nedderman lets herself fall into the slow stream of a beautiful love melancholy. English Nadia Rose is nonchalantly all about money. A quick visit to Tucson, AZ's Orkesta Mendoza, brings us some Arizona Boogaloo and we reconnect with very jazzy Swedish Kissey Asplund. Turkish-French duo Kit Sebastian takes us on a stroll through groovy funk. French Superbravo twirls choruses of remorse atop a bouncing bass. Is it time to say goodbye ? Everything comes to an end, sings Belgian group Aksak Maboul, the founders of famed record label Crammed Discs. But they do it in an endless track, so maybe they don’t really mean it. Anyways, we'll see you next week, if you please.
Every Friday for Summer of Solidarity, the Euradio team picks 15(ish) cool tracks out of its recent airing list to showcase the best of what European sound has to offer.
